L’Associazione Nerina è costituita in Ticino – Svizzera e a Boa Vista Capo Verde

ed è formata solo da volontari.

 

L’Associazione persegue finalità di protezione e difesa degli animali, in particolare quelli domestici, da maltrattamenti e abbandono, e di solidarietà sociale nel rapporto tra uomini e animali.

 

The Nerina Association is based in Ticino – Switzerland and Boa Vista – Cabo Verde. Is made up entirely of volunteers.

The Association is geared towards the protection and defence of animals, in particular domestic animals, from mistreatment and abandonment, along with developing social solidarity between humans and animals.

Perché il nome di Nerina?

​

Durante un soggiorno sulla magnifica Isola di Boavista, oltre ad incontrare innumerevoli cani, gatti randagi e asini, abbiamo conosciuto Nerina. Un’elegantissima meticcia di colore nero con macchie bianche. All’età di due anni e mezzo aveva già partorito 3 cucciolate. L'ultima delle quali, partorita sotto a un cassonetto, contava 5 cuccioli, 4 dei quali successivamente morti, lasciando viva una femmina. La piccola, chiamata successivamente Puce, ci ha fatto aprire gli occhi sulla realtà veterinaria locale, dopo che l'abbiamo assistita e curata in seguito ad un incidente.

Non indifferenti a questa situazione, quasi un anno dopo la prematura morte di Nerina, nasce quest’associazione che ha ormai più scopi:

• l’edificazione di un rifugio per tutti gli animali svantaggiati con studio veterinario e ampie zone di degenza;

​

• accoglienza, accudimento, valutazioni comportamentali, percorso volto all'adozione: questi i requisiti che Associazione Nerina offre come passaggi fondamentali fra il randagismo e l’adozione responsabile;
   

• finanziamento di campagne di sterilizzazione grazie all'ausilio di veterinari esteri.

Per questi motivi l’Associazione interpreta il rifugio non come luogo di detenzione, ma come ambiente di transito dove può nascere un’opportunità per l’animale e per l’uomo: di incontro, relazione, crescita.

 

L’associazione, attraverso il contributo dei suoi volontari, alla generosità dei suoi sostenitori, ed alla disponibilità del proprio veterinario di riferimento, si prefissa inoltre di assicurare agli animali un elevato standard di assistenza veterinaria.

Why is this association called Nerina?

​

During a stay on the magnificent island of Boa Vista, along with meeting countless dogs, stray cats and donkeys, we met Nerina. A beautiful crossbreed with a black coat and white patches. At the age of two and a half, she had already given birth to 3 litters. She gave birth to the last of which under a dumpster, and it consisted of 5 puppies. Sadly, 4 of them subsequently died, leaving just one female puppy alive. After we attended to and treated the little puppy after an accident, who we later named Puce, our eyes were truly opened to the reality of the local veterinary situation.

 

Concerned by this situation, and almost a year after the premature death of Nerina, the Nerina Association was formed and now has even more goals in mind:

 

• the construction of a shelter for all disadvantaged animals with a veterinary practice and large recovery areas;

• admission, care, behavioural assessments, and a pathway towards rehousing and adoption: these are the services that the Nerina Association, in collaboration with AAB, offers as the fundamental requirements necessary for moving stray dogs from the street to responsible adoption;


​

• the funding of neutering campaigns with the help of foreign veterinarians.

 

For these reasons, the Association sees the animal shelter not as a detention centre, but as a temporary environment wherein the opportunity to meet, connect, and grow can arise for both the animal and for their new owner.

 

The Association, through the contribution of its volunteers, the generosity of its supporters, and the availability of our veterinarians, also aims to ensure that the animals receive a high standard of veterinary care.
